The Big Cheat

Fifteen-year-old Gilda Rosenbaum has little in common with the gritty femme fatales of her beloved film noirs, until her father is accused of embezzlement and she’s forced to leave her fancy Beverly Hilly private school for a public school in Los Angeles. With no friends at her new school – and no money to pay for the summer film program she and her besties have been planning for months – Gilda reluctantly agrees to sell her essays to the school’s teen crime boss, Malick Cooper.

Unfortunately, the plagiarized essays start popping up in places they shouldn’t, and Malick blackmails Gilda into discovering who stole them. Eager to avoid scandal, Gilda agrees to play gumshoe and joins the school’s news program as a cover. But she soon finds herself falling for Andrew, the cute and dedicated editor who is hot on the heels of what could be the biggest story of the year: the forged essays. While trying to uncover the thief, keep Andrew off the scent, and placate Malick, Gilda discovers her father has secrets of his own, secrets that could destroy her family forever...
